Here’s a hearty and flavorful Baked Beans with Ground Beef and Bacon recipe — perfect for potlucks, BBQs, or a cozy family dinner!
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
6–8 slices of bacon, chopped
1 small onion, diced
3 (15 oz) cans of baked beans (like Bush’s Original or your favorite brand)
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp yellow mustard (or Dijon for a twist)
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Optional: 1/2 tsp garlic powder or chili powder for a little kick
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate. Leave a bit of the bacon fat in the pan.
3. Add the diced onion to the pan and sauté until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
4. Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
5. Combine everything in a large mixing bowl (or directly in your baking dish): baked beans, cooked beef and onion, bacon (reserve a little for topping), ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire, and any optional seasonings.
6. Transfer to a 9x13 baking dish, sprinkle reserved bacon on top.
7. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes, or until bubbly and slightly caramelized on top.
8. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving — they thicken as they sit!
Tips:
Want it sweeter? Add a bit more brown sugar.
Want it smokier? Use BBQ sauce instead of ketchup.
This dish is even better the next day and can be modified for the slow cooker like I prepared them in this video!
