Leanne Rumley is Deaf and blind in her left eye. She lost her housing because of COVID related issues and has been living in Victoria's Beacon Hill Park for several months. I recognize that releasing an unedited interview ahead of a film is a backwards way of doings things, but Leanne’s words cannot wait to be heard.
Leanne is warrior. She led a class action lawsuit against Jericho Hill School for the Deaf from 1997-2004. There was systemic sexual, emotional, and physical abuse against deaf and blind children spanning from 1950-1992. She fought hard and won the case that represented 350 students.
I plead with our community to keep an open mind about people who are unhoused and sheltering in the local parks. Everybody has a story, and this is hers...
