One of my favorite bands and songs from the early 70's. Drumming icon Bill Bruford on some incredible, recognizable drum work along with the amazing Rick Wakeman on keyboards and synthesizer, Chris Squire on phenomenal bass guitar and the legendary Steve Howe on some extraordinary guitar work.
From Yes's fourth studio album "Fragile" which was released in November, 1971, "Roundabout" was written in March, 1971 by lead singer Jon Anderson and guitarist Steve Howe during a tour while driving from Aberdeen to Glasgow Scotland. They passed a lot of "roundabouts", which they estimated to be at least 40 in all. Anderson also noticed that you couldn't see the tops of the mountains because it was a cloudy overcast day and said "look, the mountains - they're coming out of the sky". They also passed a Loch on the way to Glasgow which became the line "In and around the lake". He liked the way those words sounded and got his notebook out and started writing the song. Upon arrival in their Glasgow hotel, Anderson and Howe began to put down song ideas on their recorder.
The band returned home to London within twenty four hours which re-united Anderson with his then wife which inspired the phrase "Twenty-four before my love, you'll see, I'll be there with you".
