President Rodrigo Roa Duterte presented Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari to members of the media at the Ceremonial Hall in Malacañang.

“It is with great happiness that I announce to the nation that Chairman Nur Misuari, our brother, who heads the MNLF, has finally decided to just accept my invitation for him to talk to us,” the President said.

The warrant of arrest for rebellion charges filed against Misuari over the Zamboanga siege in 2013 have been suspended upon the President’s order to seek support on the peace talks between the government and the Moros.

Aside from expressing his support on the administration’s fight against illegal drugs, Misuari in his statement thanked and assured the President that he can count on him on the peace process.

“I came only in answer to the invitation of the President, the man whom I respect… And now I came here to thank him, first for restoring my freedom, if only partially,” said the MNLF leader.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza facilitated the meeting of President Duterte and Misuari in Malacañang, fetching the latter from Jolo, Sulu.
