Marko Demantowsky introduces the new series of Vienna Public History Lectures, which will be published by De Gruyter Oldenbourg starting this year, on an annual basis.
And of course there are a few sentences about the first volume of this new series: The book title "Frozen Time. The museum as panic room" already tells the reader nicely what to expect. And if one then takes into account the author, Valentin Groebner, full professor of history at Lucerne, it all becomes clear: You will be served a marvelously worded intellectual provocation.
Museums and their exhibitions and their reviews are omnipresent nowadays. This ubiquity though serves to transport secret messages, which Valentin Groebner does not want to let stay hidden. Because, according to the author, they are problematic.
