Following its 1959 British Open Victory at Belle Vue Besses recorded an
evening Gala Concert which was Broadcast on BBC Radio 3
The 30 Minute Concert programme was as follows:
March - “Whitefield”
Test Piece - “The Undaunted”
Waltz - “Gold and Silver”
Trombone Solo - “The Joker”
Hymn - “Eventide”
Feature - “Brass Band Boogie”
March - “Besses o’ th’ Barn”
The Significance of the 1959 Besses British Open Victory was as follows:
1. This was the 6th Victory for Besses in its History (1892, 1894, 1920, 1931, 1937 being the previous)
2. This was the 3rd Victory for Besses under the Baton of Willie Wood (1920 and 1937 being the previous)
3. This was Validation of the importance of the 1943 Vision to train future Besses Talent through the formation of the Besses Boys Band.
This was as the solution to the decimation of the Besses playing staff due to WWII and the only way to give Besses Band a future
