Orthopaedics is not a terminal branch.
Three years of PG does not mean you are done. Many doctors step out without the confidence to operate independently which is why fellowships become the next step.
Arthroscopy has one of the steepest learning curves. Watching a thousand cases means nothing until you hold the scope in your own hands.
Arthroplasty has conventional and robotic approaches. Robots look glamorous but access and cost make it nearly impossible for young surgeons to train on them.
Spine surgery is equally demanding with conventional and robotic approaches often pushing people toward MCh super specialisations.
Other sub specialities like paediatrics hand surgery foot and ankle surgery and trauma each come with their own challenges.
So do the maths. Orthopaedics does not end with a degree. It is three years of PG plus two years of fellowship at the very least. And if you want to refine and practice more that is extra time you give.
This video is not to discourage anyone. It is to give context so you know what you are signing up for before you choose orthopaedics.
Watch till the end because Reel 3 will show you what happens after fellowship.
