A monstrous severe thunderstorm — the strongest to hit Nebraska in 2024 — tears across the Omaha metro, bringing destructive winds, blinding rain, and nonstop lightning. The shelf cloud races in from the west, the sky turns green, and our birch tree bends sideways under the force of the wind as the storm slams into the neighborhood.
When the core finally passes, the atmosphere shifts. The back side of the storm glows under a brilliant yellow sunset, revealing sculpted cloud layers drifting east as calm slowly returns. As twilight deepens, the sky clears and the final remnants of the storm fade into the night.
