Although footage of only three songs from the 30 March 1972 mock studio session in RCA's Studio A has entered the public domain it is unclear just how much of that extensive session was actually filmed. It is believed by many that Turner / MGM have the complete Hampton Roads, Greensboro and San Antonio shows with limited footage from Richmond and a couple of others from that tour as well as considerable rehearsal footage. Much of the rehearsal footage is already in the public domain through unofficial channels but unlike the TTWII footage, which is pretty much all available unofficially, they seem to have been able to keep the "On Tour" footage better protected.
"Always On My Mind" was given an RCA catalogue numbers almost immediately, despite the actual RCA master being recorded at the same studio the previous evening. Laterally after the release of FTD's "On Tour - The Rehearsals" in 2004 a further twenty two were given catalogue numbers including both takes of the final song recorded "Separate Ways", the RCA master of which was recorded a couple of days earlier, and both these takes from the 30th were featured in the final edit of "Elvis - On Tour" in 1972.
Within the movie the editing gives the impression that Elvis aborted the take after the first chorus but in reality both were complete takes with the "Cut it.." line uttered by Elvis actually occurring at the end of the first take. This video has been re-edited to show just where the released footage fits in properly in relation to the actual recordings with photos from the session entered where no footage currently exists.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
