The German physicist Burkhard Heim developed a new model for particle physics. Its basis is a 6-dimensional world, where beside ordinary space-time, there are a structural and a teleological coordinate. Geometry itself is quantized: empty 6-dimensional space appears as a pseudo-Euclidian grid. Any physical event corresponds to a deformation (“condensation”) of this grid. Such events can occur in 4 different groups, from which the different classes of particles arise. Further exploration of this model led to the deduction of the masses of the elementary particles, based on pure geometric considerations.
