Miles Gilbert "Tim" Horton was born in 1930 in Cochrane Ontario, Canada. He started playing professional hockey for the #TorontoMapleLeafs in 1949, spending nearly 20 years with the historic franchise before moving on to play for New York, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. During his pro career, he also appeared in seven All-Star games and 486 consecutive Leaf games, a club record that was not broken until 2007.
Tim Horton’s first business ventures were actually in a burger restaurant (also called Tim Hortons) and a Studebaker dealership. It’s not clear what happened with these investments, but there are no more Studebakers and Tim Horton’s doesn’t sell hamburgers, so I imagine they weren’t as successful. He opened the first Tim Hortons Doughnut Shop in Hamilton, Ontario, on Ottawa Street, in 1964. By 1968, a single restaurant had already become a multi-million dollar franchise.
