The Pension Moritz opened in the mountains above Berchtesgaden in 1878.
It was renamed the Platterhof in 1928. It was remodeled in 1936 & bunkers and tunnels to other official buildings was added. It was bombed by the RAF in April 1945. The US Army rebuilt the hotel in 1952 & called it The General Walker Hotel. It was used by the US Military for recreational purposes until 1996 when it was returned to The Bavarian Government. The hotel was demolished in 2001.
The Berghof which was near the Platterhof, was Adolph Hitlers vacation home in Bavaria. It was also bombed by the RAF in April 1945. The Bavarian government demolished the damaged building in 1952. What you see at the end of this video is all that remained of the house in 1989.
Filmed on VHS Camcorder during the summer of 1989.
