A live stream from a Tawny Owl (Strix Aluco) nest box located in north Norfolk, England.
Tawny owls usually lay eggs around March but one of the pair, and very occasionally both, may occupy it for roosting during the day from October. The male and female are similar in size but the male usually has more brown on his face than the female.
Tawny owls hunt by night, looking for nice, voles, frogs, earworms and occasionally small birds. They mostly lay between 2 and 4 eggs. The young will leave the nest box before they can fly, climbing and flopping around the branches of the tree.
If you find a young tawny owl on the ground please leave it where it is unless you think its in danger of being caught/killed. In that case try to put it on a low branch nearby. The parents will easily find it and bring food to it.
