Please note: this video only includes the final section of the Dragon sequence from the Hung Gar Five Animals form.
The Hung Ga Five Animal Fist was choreographed by the legendary Wong Fei-hung 黃飛鴻 (1847 – 1925). The "Five Animals" refers to the characteristic Five Animals of the Southern Chinese martial arts: Dragon, Snake, Tiger, Leopard, and Crane.
This form features movements based on the characteristics of the five animals:
Dragon form develops the spirit, correctness of breath, the use of the waist and the twisting of the stance.
Snake form trains the fingers, promotes chi circulation, control and teaches strikes to the vital points of the body.
Tiger form instills fierceness of spirit, develops clawing techniques and strengthens the bones and tendons.
Leopard form teaches the “tsop choy” (piercing jab) and the use of speed and strength.
Crane form teaches grace, control, balance and trains the sinews.
