This mini-documentary, produced by filmmaker John Stanton for the Nantucket Historical Association, includes excerpts from a series of oral histories conducted by John for the NHA in 2019.
In this video, in-season ‘Sconset residents Nathanael and Jennie Greene talk about how their great grandparents purchased the Wade Cottages in the 1920s for use as a family compound – and how that morphed after the depression into a family business renting guest rooms and cottages. The cottage rentals continue today. They remember summers living there around the needs of guests and the extended summer season they enjoyed. They also talk about how they remembered Codfish Park and how it has evolved from a year-round community, through the loss of many beach-front cottages to erosion, and is now more an enclave of summer residents.
The 'Sconset Oral History Project was generously funded by the Judy Family Foundation.
