Описание: In this 7th episode of Field Notes From The Land, I explore disturbance as a fundamental ecological process, from a crow scratching moss from a lawn to grazing animals shaping landscapes.

Plants and animals have evolved together through cycles of disturbance and regrowth. Small openings in soil can determine whether a wildflower establishes or disappears. Scaled up across a landscape, these disturbances create diversity and resilience.

As gardeners, we are not separate from this process. We are part of it.

This film looks at:

• How small disturbances create opportunities for life
• Why too much disturbance degrades ecosystems and too little reduces diversity
• How grazing, cutting, and selective pressure can create mosaic vegetation
• The role of the gardener as an ecosystem engineer

It’s a field-based reflection on how landscapes respond disturbance and how our actions can either support or degrade life.
