For more than four decades, the murders of three women in Toronto remained unsolved. Each case occurred years apart, in different locations, and under seemingly unrelated circumstances. At the time, investigators had no reason to believe the crimes were connected.

Thanks to advances in forensic science and genetic genealogy, Toronto Police have now confirmed that all three murders — committed between the early 1980s and late 1990s — were the work of the same serial killer.

This video examines the cases of Christine Prince, Claire Samson, and Gracelyn Greenidge, exploring how limitations in early forensic technology allowed the crimes to go unsolved for decades, and how preserved DNA evidence ultimately revealed the truth. Police later identified Kenneth Smith, who died in 2019, as the man responsible.

While he can never face trial, the discovery provides long-awaited answers for families and investigators — and demonstrates how modern DNA technology continues to reshape cold-case investigations.
