Wearing A Wig The First Time!

Описание: “Idk about you…. But wearing a topper or a wig for the first time(s) is ANXIETY INDUCING. 😳 So much so it can keep some people from even considering wearing alt hair altogether.

The intrusive questions, people obviously looking at your hairline instead of your eyes, asking if you changed your hair, even people going as far as touching your topper/wig…. 🙈 It’s a lot.

Here’s what I know, I’ve come to realize people are going to judge and be Nosy Nancy’s regardless of what you do/say…. My thought process is I might as well do what makes me happy bc people will judge anyways. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I can’t control what people do/say surrounding my topper/wig wearing.

But what I CAN control is my own beliefs and thoughts surrounding my topper or wig wearing. Our internal monologue can be really critical & mean to ourselves in moments like this. It’s important to remind yourself WHY you decided to wear hair & most importantly WHO you decided to wear hair for. More than likely you didn’t decide to wear hair for the approval of Nosy Nancy.

Here’s my internal monologue in moments like this:

WHY?? Because my genetically thin hair was getting uncontrollably worse. I was sick of hating my thinning hair, so I decided a topper or wig would be the best solution for me. I decided to take back control of my hair loss.

WHO do I wear wigs for: ME, MYSELF & I. I made the decision to wear toppers or wigs because that is what makes ME the most comfortable in my own skin. It’s not a choice I was pressured into, instead it was a choice I made to show myself love & take back control of my hair loss.

The way we talk to ourselves matters. I’d encourage you to be kind to yourself & give yourself grace in these uncomfortable moments.

Another thing you can do in these moments is remind yourself of the support network you have outside of this awkward moment. Remind yourself: the opinions of people who truly matter in my life support my decision to be happy & wear alternative hair.
