The blood moon is about to rise, and everything is quiet; but silence never lasts in the apocalypse. With the dead still roaming, I head into the earth to mine, carving iron from the stone in amounts that almost feel greedy. By the time I surface, I’m hauling enough metal to rebuild a small tank… or tear one apart.
When the sky turns red, the world shifts. I take my post in the tower, every trap primed, every corridor wired. The first wave hits like thunder — and the trap tunnel earns its name. The darts sing, the fences crackle, the invaders choke in the dark. For the first time, the plan works better than I'd hoped.
When dawn finally breaks, I’m alive, richer in XP, poorer in ammo, and surrounded by the bones of the night. I patch the walls, reload the traps, and decide the mountain can spare me for a while. So I take to the skies.
The gyrocopter lifts me from trader to trader — gear sold, debts paid, miles traveled. On the way home, I dig up treasure left rotting in the dirt, grab an airdrop before the wind can steal it, and strip the earth for lead and nitrate until the land feels hollow.
Then it’s back to the base — back underground — where the real work continues. Doors wired to open and shut on command. Steel plates locked into place. The tower gets a new coat of paint, trading raw concrete for something that looks like it once belonged in a world that made sense.
But the dead don’t wait for good timing. Wandering hordes interrupt the work. Screamers find the scent of life and call for more death. Between crafting ammo, boiling water, and stocking traps, the fortress grows teeth again.
The world keeps moving — day, night, blood, silence — and each step is one more footprint in the journey.
The mountain stands. The dead return.
And the next moon is already on the way.
