(19 Mar 2015) STARS ARRIVE AT THE HONG KONG FILM DIRECTORS' GUILD AWARDS
It was a star-studded affair at the annual Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Awards on Wednesday (18 MARCH 2015), with veteran filmmakers like Derek Yee, Andrew Lau and Ann Hui coming out to support their fellow directors.
Some of their favorite leading ladies and leading men were also in attendance, including Shu Qi, Tang Wei, Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo and Shawn Yue.
Actress Shu Qi will begin promoting her new film "The Assassins," directed by Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao Hsien, shortly.
However, recently, she's been preoccupied with her cats at home.
"I brought both cats to the vet to get groomed and then I found out - the pet shop owner looked at me funny and said, 'You know that Boy (name of her cat) is a boy?' I said, 'Of course I know he's a boy.' He said, 'Do you know that Girl (name of her other cat) is a boy?'" explains the 38 year old actress,
"I was like completely shocked. I couldn't believe it. I'm still very shocked. The problem is just me. They have no problems with it. They're still very loving to each other. I've always wanted a female cat. I just thought it'd be nice to have a girl. Now I can understand why some parents desperately want to have a girl."
When asked about the recent accusation by film producer Charles Heung that actress Cecilia Cheung is difficult to work with, Shu said that it's hard to comment on other people's business.
"If it is true, I think everyone should just take a step back and just be kind," she said.
Chinese actress Tang Wei's portrayal of Chinese female novelist Xiao Hong has earned her a nomination at the upcoming Asian Film Awards and Hong Kong Film Awards.
Off screen, the 35 year old actress's personal life has also reached new heights. Last year she married South Korean director Kim Tae yong.
Tang is still basking in newlywed marital bliss and gushed about married life on the red carpet.
"I feel like there's an added responsibility. It's an added motivation in life and makes me enjoy all aspects of life more," she said.
Hong Kong actor Lau Ching wan seems to be a permanent fixture at award ceremonies. He's nominated for Best Actor in the upcoming Hong Kong Film Awards, for his performance in "Overheard 3."
On his nominations, Lau said, "I'm always confident in myself, however, like I always say, this is not something I can decide."
The Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild will hand out a total of seven awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor/Actress and Best New Director.
