Welcome to my video!
My friend and I embarked on a motorbike journey to research archaeology in Northern Cambodia, specifically studying ancient temples and archaeological sites in the Chong Kal district of Oddar Meanchey province.
We are specifically exploring the ancient laterite stone bridges that are part of the Western Royal Road network, which linked Angkor Thom to Phimai in modern-day Thailand. These sites are approximately 130 km from Siem Reap city. The trip takes about two hours via the National Road, followed by a ride through local farms and rice fields.
I’ve created these videos to share these hidden ancient laterite bridges with you, even though they aren't official tourist destinations yet. This specific bridge in Oddar Meanchey is known by local villagers as Yeay Khmeng Ta Khmeng. In Khmer, Yeay means Grandmother, Ta means Grandfather, and Khmeng means Young. So, it literally translates to the 'Young Grandmother and Young Grandfather Bridge.' Since its original ancient name has been lost to history, this is how we remember it today.
