Today we’re breaking down Access Control — the base of controlling who can get to what, and why.
Access control means only the right people can access sensitive systems, files, or machines — and only when they need to. It’s also similar to the principle of least privilege: if someone doesn’t need it to do their job, they shouldn’t have access.
There are two key types:
Physical access control — like badge readers on doors or locked server rooms.
Logical access control — like user permissions on your file shares, admin logins, or access to machines over the network.
On a shop floor, you need to enforce role-based access, use unique user accounts, and regularly review who has access — and why. Try to avoid as much as possible shared accounts, and passwords hanging on post-it.
