As a physician, we are trained to save lives.
But we are rarely taught how to accompany life at its very end.
Recently, I created a short film about the final journey of a person after passing away in hospital, to help the public understand what truly happens — not with fear, but with clarity and dignity.
The journey begins in the hospital farewell room (mortuary / “Wangsheng Hall”), where the body is cared for with respect and where families are given space for their first goodbye.
Within 24 hours, the deceased is transferred to the Xiamen Funeral Service Center (Tianma Mountain Fuze Garden) for the farewell ceremony and cremation.
After cremation, the journey continues to its final destination — the cemetery.
I visited Wenpu Mountain Enze Garden Memorial Park, including the Body Donation Memorial Garden, where donors are remembered for their final gift to medicine.
This is not a story about death.
It is a story about how a healthcare system carries a human life with dignity, structure, and compassion — all the way to the end.
Understanding this final journey does not make us afraid.
It makes us more present, more grateful, and more respectful of life itself.
