Chinese banks may have helped Iran evade US sanctions

Описание: US prosecutors are investigating alleged activity by Chinese banks to help Iran skirt US sanctions.

Chinese banks are suspected of helping Iran banks who needed access to US dollars transfer money through foreign banks which then routed the funds through their US subsidiaries.
The US has tightened sanctions against Iran, which it accuses of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Foreign banks were first barred by the US from transferring funds through their US subsidiaries on behalf of Iranian banks in 2008.

Iran's rial fell by 12 percent on Jan. 2 after the US announced new sanctions targeting Iran's central bank.
