Описание: As a part of Exercise TÁPIO, the American and Brazilian Airmen conducted a combat search and rescue mission demonstration while engaging a simulated enemy with blanks/simulated rounds and explosive simulations for a large audience of distinguished visitors watching including U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Denise Donnell, the commander of the New York Air National Guard, U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Isabel Smith, the director of joint staff for the New York National Guard, the commander of the Brazilian Air Force General Carlos de Almeida Baptista Junior and the Brazilian Minister of Defense Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira on Aug. 29, 2022 in Campo Grande, Brazil.

The demonstration showcased a downed pilot combat search and rescue scenario whereby American and Brazilian Air Force special operators worked together with each other as well as aircrews and aircraft from both countries to recover a simulated downed pilot. It began with a U.S. and Brazilian team jumping out of a U.S. Air Force HC-130J Combat King II aircraft from the 106th Rescue Wing to where they parachuted to the pilot below. They then began to employ tactics, techniques and procedures to recover the pilot while contending with an opposition force. In addition to small arms fire to fight the enemy force, they called in two Brazilian A-29 Super Tucano turboprop light attack aircraft air strikes using Tactical Air Party operators as the U.S. and Brazilian pararescue team dealt with the pilot. The team then called for an extraction by a Brazilian Air Force H-36 Caracal helicopter while a 106th Rescue Wing HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter provided cover support from above for the extraction helicopter. Upon extraction the exercise demo was concluded.

The 106th Rescue Wing, based at F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach, New York, operates and maintains the HC-130J Combat King II search and rescue aircraft, and the HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopter. The 106th RQW is home to a special warfare squadron with pararescuemen and combat rescue officers, specializing in rescue and recovery, and deploys for domestic and overseas operations.
