President Bill Clinton got a standing ovation from the White House media corps for showing a video poking fun at himself.
Clinton, his wife Hillary, and a star-studded cast of White House secretaries and advisors took the stage in the film marking the end of the president's period of office.
In the spoof video - shown at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night - the president's days are clearly numbered.
But although it's wind down period for Clinton, the White House staff are making sure he doesn't sit around twiddling his thumbs.
There are always phone calls to answer - even if they're not for him.
After all the hectic years of super power policy making, the hot seat has turned distinctly cold.
But the drop off in business has allowed Clinton time to perfect his origami skills - a final "swan song".
Colleagues are clearly a little concerned about the president's erratic behaviour of late.
Like putting a gleam on the presidential car - Clinton's a dab hand with the hose, accustomed as he is to pouring water on various political fires.
And you have to respect the world's most powerful man for doing his own laundry.
If there's anything designed to put Clinton in a spin, it's watching his underpants dry.
But the corridors of power now leave the president high and dry.
Even the White House staff seem caught in the malaise.
They've taken to photo-copying their own heads.
There are only a few things that can help Clinton kick the blues.
Chocolate is always a comfort at times like this.
But even the vending machine seems sceptical about Clinton's good old American dollar bill.
It's really nothing that a good kick and punch won't fix.
Man, beast and machine are prone to submit to brute force, as this politician well knows.
The beating yields the much anticipated candy bar, and Bill is on the road to bliss.
Time now to give someone else a thrashing.
In the White House situation room, where Clinton is accustomed to discussing wars and military tactics, a more benign strategic game is in progress.
Henry Shelton, joint chief of staff, buckles under Bill's fire power.
At last the president has beaten the blues...reds and whites.
