The Commission today joined @KBCChannel1News to celebrate World Radio Day at their HQ in Nairobi. World Radio Day is a globally recognized event aimed at celebrating radio broadcast, improve international cooperation among radio broadcasters encourage decision-making.
The Commission was represented by Commissioner Dr. Alutalala Mukhwana, Chair of the Voter Education, Partnerships, Communications, and Stakeholder Engagement Committee (VEPSEC), who delivered a keynote speech on the importance of radio in election management.
In his address, Commissioner Dr. Alutalala emphasized that radio remains the most accessible and trusted medium for reaching citizens across the country, particularly young people, marginalized communities, and those in remote areas. He noted that radio continues to play a central role in voter education, civic awareness, and the dissemination of accurate electoral information.
The Commissioner used the platform to urge young Kenyans to actively participate in the electoral process by registering as voters and turning out to vote when elections are held. He observed that youth participation in voter registration remains low, despite young people constituting a significant proportion of the country’s population.
“While technology continues to evolve, citizens must use the systems available today to shape their future. We should not delay participation while waiting for future innovations,” Commissioner Dr. Alutalala said.
