A group of friends took a break from their National Mall afternoon run to walk on water after days of subfreezing temperatures turned the Reflecting Pool into an ice-skating rink.
They were far from the only ones stepping out on the ice. What many may consider fun can become life-threatening and may also land you in hot water.
It is illegal to walk on any frozen waterway in the District, according to city code.
