My dog Luna was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 2 years old. She is now approaching 5 years old. It's not bad enough to require surgery yet, but as she gets older the hip dysplasia could get bad enough that surgery is the only remedy.
In the meantime I do three things for her to manage her pain. The first is hip and joint supplements, the second is a pain pill called carprofen, and the third thing I do is massage her hips when it seems to be bothering her the most. With those three things she lives a normal life and isn't always in pain.
