Описание: Dr. Sanjoy Mahajan of Olin College of Engineering and MIT spoke at UC Davis on November 18, 2014. Partly because of the growth of MOOCs, digital technology is becoming an integral part of STEM teaching. Yet we often confuse the means, using technology, with our end: long-lasting, transferable learning. A frequent result is expensive yet ineffective instruction. In this talk, Mahajan shows how principles based on educational research and cognitive psychology can help us use digital tools as a means to improve teaching—for residential education or distance learning. Mahajan also discusses the limitations of current tools. In keeping with the first “O” (open) in MOOC, he illustrates the principles and their digital implementation with freely licensed, nonproprietary tools.
