Syntell and Rekkai are back in Philly — and Season 6 Episode 8 "The Gang Gets a New Member" is exactly the unhinged chaos we signed up for. The gang digs up a time capsule, discovers a photo of Schmidy — a former member they pushed out of a moving car — and decides they want him back. Plot twist: his mom says he's dead. Bigger plot twist: he is absolutely not dead. That's Jason Sudeikis.

Meanwhile Dee tries to channel her inner Michelle Pfeiffer in a substitute teacher role she has no business being in. Charlie applies to be the substitute janitor just to be near Schmidy. Dennis orders for everyone at the reunion lunch and nearly roundhouse kicks his own hip out at the ring ceremony. And Schmidy clocks that this whole operation runs like a cult — which it absolutely does.

The review goes deep on Jason Sudeikis's pre-Ted Lasso résumé (SNL → Horrible Bosses → We Are the Millers), Rekkai's key observation that the gang is a cult and Dennis is the cult leader who just happens to have the most refined palate, whether we even want to know what Nightcrawlers is, and where Dennis's sudden emotional sensitivity came from.
