Can you use adverbs and adverbial expressions as discourse markers? In this English lesson you will learn adverbial phrases to signpost your discussion. They are phrases like 'obviously', 'by the way', 'as I was saying' and 'as far as ... is concerned'. There is a full list at the end of this description.
The lesson is aimed at advanced students so if it's a bit fast, turn on the closed captions to help. Discourse markers are an essential part of English whether it's a conversation with friends, a business conversation or an English speaking exam like IELTS so it's well worth taking the time to learn them.
CHALLENGE: Do you really want to know how often native English speakers use discourse markers? Watch the video and count how many times I say the word "so". Put your answers in the comments if you manage to catch them all!
