As part of Manufacturing Month, KEDC Executive Director Lisa Denton visited LeTourneau University to learn how the institution is shaping the future of the manufacturing workforce. She was joined by Dr. Michael McGinnis, Dean of the School of Engineering & Engineering Technology, and Alan Clipperton, Vice President of Global Initiatives & Industry Engagement and Executive Director of RG Research and Development.

During the visit, they shared how LeTourneau is helping meet industry needs by developing “T-shaped engineers”—graduates with strong technical expertise and the ability to collaborate and problem-solve with purpose.

LeTourneau offers programs across mechanical, electrical, civil, welding, and biomedical engineering, as well as construction management, engineering technology, aviation and aeronautical science. Notably, the university houses the nation’s only program offering both welding engineering and welding technology degrees under one roof.

Since its founding in 1946 as LeTourneau Technical Institute, the university has remained committed to workforce development and continues to play an important role in upskilling and reskilling today’s workforce for industries across East Texas and beyond.
