The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) needs your help.

Sun bear cubs and baby sun bears are particularly vulnerable to malnutrition if they can't feed themselves. The BSBCC rescues, protects and treats baby and adult sun bears with the long-term objective to re-integrate them into the wild if possible.

Sun bear habitats are being depleted and this is having a dramatic effect on sun bear lifespans. Humans, disease, changing environmental conditions, pollution and lack of food is affecting sun bear distribution across Asia.

So we need to show some bear charity and help BSBCC and "papa bear" Dr Wong Siew Te by donating as much as we can to help feed the bears and keep the centre operating so that it can perform the wonderful work it does.

Some fun and interesting facts about sun bears are that they are the smallest bear on the planet, standing only 150cm tall when fully grown and weighing in at around 70kg.

The sun bear tongue however is very long at 20 – 25cm. This helps them extract honey from bee hives, earning them the alternative name ‘honey bear’ or ‘beruang madu’ in Malay and Indonesian.

The scientific name for sun bears is: Helarctos malayanus, and they are an omnivorous animal, meaning they'll eat just about anything.

They can live up to 30 years but the threat to sun bears from the modern world means they are very vulnerable to extinction.
