Legendary EastEnders actor Derek Martin — best known for playing devoted dad Charlie Slater — has died aged 92. Martin’s gentle but powerful portrayal of Charlie made him a favourite with millions of viewers throughout the BBC soap’s run from 2000 and beyond. Born in Bow, east London, he worked jobs from butcher to RAF serviceman before breaking into acting, building a career across iconic British TV dramas including Z-Cars, The Sweeney, Minder and more.
