নারীর বিশেষ নিরাপত্তার কথা বিবেচনা করেই এমন সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন আল্লাহ তায়ালা। তবে নারীও পুরুষের চেয়ে শ্রেষ্ঠ ও বুদ্ধিসম্পন্ন হতে পারে। পবিত্র কোরআনেহযরত মরিয়ম (আ.) সম্পর্কে আল্লাহ বলেন, ‘পুরুষের চেয়ে এ নারীর মর্যাদা অনেক বেশি’। সূরা আলে ইমরান, আয়াত ৩৬।
বিয়ের আগে নারীর অভিভাক পিতা এবং বিয়ের পরে স্বামী। অভিভাবকের দায়িত্ব হলো, তার অধীনে থাকা নারীদের জীবন-মান-সম্পদ কোনো কিছুরই যেন ব্যাঘাত না ঘটে সে বিষয়ে সর্বোচ্চ সতর্ক থাকা। হাদিস শরিফে নারীর অভিভাকত্বের বিনিময়ে
জান্নাতের গ্যারান্টি দেওয়া হয়েছে। রাসুল (সা.) বলেছেন, যে তার কন্যা বা বোনকে
উত্তমরূপে লালনপালন করে দেখেশুনে সৎপাত্রস্থ করবে, বিনিময়ে তাকে জান্নাত দেওয়া হবে। একইসঙ্গে হাদিসে একথাও বলা হয়েছে, যে স্বামী স্ত্রীর যথাযথ অধিকার আদায় করে , স্ত্রীর চোখে আদর্শ স্বামী হতে পারবে, কেয়ামতের দিন আল্লাহর সামনে সে আদর্শ মুমিন হিসেবে দাঁড়াবে। তবে যেসব স্ত্রী স্বামীর অবাধ্য হয় এদের সম্পর্কে কঠিন হুঁশিয়ারি উচ্চারণ করেছেন রাসুল (সা.)। স্বামী তার দায়িত্ব যথাযথভাবে পালন করার পরও কোনো স্ত্রী যদি স্বামীর অবাধ্য হয়, না-শোকরি করে- তবে এমন স্ত্রীকে জাহান্নামের ভয় দেখিয়েছেন রাসুল (সা.)।
