Center Stage (2000) was directed by Nicholas Hytner (known for The Madness of King George, The Crucible, The History Boys). The film stars Amanda Schull (Suits, 12 Monkeys, Mao’s Last Dancer) as Jody Sawyer, a hopeful new ballet student; Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Colombiana) as Eva Rodriguez, a rebellious and talented dancer; and Susan May Pratt (10 Things I Hate About You, Drive Me Crazy, Open Water) as Maureen, a disciplined but conflicted ballerina. Also featured are Peter Gallagher (The O.C., American Beauty, While You Were Sleeping) as Jonathan Reeves, the artistic director of the academy, and Ethan Stiefel (Flesh and Bone, Ballet Now, principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre) as Cooper Nielson, a charismatic yet complicated lead dancer. The film blends real ballet talent with dramatic storytelling to explore the intense world of professional dance.
