Certain intersections across Denver pose greater dangers to pedestrians than others, and the risk correlates directly with neighborhood disadvantage, according to new research from Children's Hospital Colorado.
Dr. Shannon Acker, associate professor of pediatric surgery and trauma medical director at Children's Hospital Colorado, and Dr. Emily Meyers, pediatric surgery critical care fellow, led the study examining how neighborhood disadvantage affects pediatric traffic injuries. Their findings reveal that children in disadvantaged areas face higher rates of auto-pedestrian accidents and more severe injuries.
