It was late July, the hottest days in the Spanish summer. I had arrived from Bristol a few days before, but now I was driving west, away from the city of Madrid and into the last holm oak forests of Europe. Cinereous vultures... stone martens... spotless starlings...
The highway was almost empty on that bright morning, and I was already daydreaming about the beautiful animals that lived in that legendary National Park where I was heading: Monfragüe.
