Join me in camp to take a look at my gear-hacked minimalist one-person water treatment kit, at Francis Lake in the Eagle Cap Wilderness in Oregon in September 2019.
Combining a Sawyer Mini, the water bag from a Platypus Hoser, a bit of plastic hose, and a Lifestraw, I put together a reliable, lightweight, redundant, and compact gravity water treatment and carrying system.
I already had the Sawyer from a past gear test, and I always carry a Lifestraw, so the only cost here was the Platypus at $30 retail-- which I needed anyway.
With the ability to drink immediately from a water source using a choice of two filters or collect nearly a gallon for later treatment, a metal water bottle for emergency boiling, as well as a filtration capacity more than 100,000 gallons, I've never felt a greater sense of water security in camp or on the trail!
