In a monumental engineering endeavor, India is witnessing the construction of its first-ever cable-stayed railway bridge, soaring high above the Anji River Gorge that spans from the Katra Railway Station to the Reasi Railway Station. Designed by Italian railway experts, the Anji Railway Bridge has already seen the completion of its primary components, with the final 140-meter-long segment currently undergoing construction. Once this segment is finished, the bridge will be prepared for the installation of railway tracks.
The construction of the Anji Bridge is an extraordinary feat, characterized by its challenging and intricate engineering requirements. Although smaller in scale when compared to the iconic Chenab Bridge, this bridge holds immense significance for the region. Upon completion, it will stand at a towering height of 195 meters above the riverbed, with the main span extending an impressive 290 meters across the steep slopes of the Anji Khad River.
Located within the young and complex folds of the Himalayan mountains, this project has encountered a multitude of geological features, including faults, folds, thrusts, and the constant threat of seismic activity. In-depth site-specific investigations were conducted by prestigious institutions such as IIT Roorkee and IIT Delhi to address these geological challenges. #usbrl #anjikhadbridge #indianrailways #SiddharathaEditorNewsStation
