Dianchi Lake (滇池), also known as Lake Dian and Kunming Lake (昆明湖), is a large lake located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau close to Kunming, Yunnan, China. Its nickname is the "Sparkling Pearl Embedded in a Highland".
During the annual seagull season, thousands of migrating Siberian seagulls fly to Kunming and spend their winter there. A frequent hangout for the migrating seagulls.
The elevation of the lake is at 1886 meters, surrounded by peaks, and is of magnificent scenery and is referred to as 'the pearl on the plateau'.
