Elana Levine, author of "Her Stories: Daytime Soap Opera and US Television History" (Duke, 2020), draws on archival research and her experience as a longtime soap fan to build a history of daytime television soap opera as a uniquely gendered cultural form and a central force in the rise and fall of network television. Maureen Ryan, Deputy Director of C21 and co-editor of the book Emergent Feminisms: Complicating a Postfeminist Media Culture (Routledge, 2018), talks to Levine about studying women’s popular culture, the work of historiographic research, and how to research and theorize the lived experiences of women.
