We all know that we want our horses to be round and connected from back to front. But how do we get there with a horse that tends to be tight and short in the neck?

In this video, JJ shows us her process for helping Ivar find his way to self-carriage with a supple, “rubber” body. Ivar doesn’t yet have the strength to pull his neck out of his withers, lift his back and stay softly connected to the bit without sometimes dropping behind the vertical or flinging his neck around. Instead of telling him what not to do, JJ consistently and patiently works to show him how to use his body in a way that will help him build strength and move out of tension into a soft true connection.
