What's new:
*DOUBLES PLAY!!!! Very fun, and some of the songs get saved by their charts too. Only issue is that the HP megamixes didn't get them, and licenses only got the long version charted while the KO's only got the short versions.
*LONG VERSION SONGS RETURN!!. There's a least 35 of them IIRC, and they range from 2 something to 5 minutes in length. Beware though, that in courses you ONLY play the long versions. Keep that in mind as you look at the courses in the video...
*CHALLENGE DIFFICULTY!!!! It's about damn time. The only songs from X2 that didn't get their challenge charts are the ones with shock arrows, and to be honest I don't think too many of us are really going to miss them.
REPLICANT-D-ACTION!!!! And you BETTER be prepared!
What's changed:
*Scoring is closer to that of arcade DDR now, though the interpretation seems to be a little looser still. A PFC leaves you at 99% though which is great if you're the type to Marvelous Attack.
*Difficulty is on the 1-20 scale instead of the classic 1-10. This had to happen, otherwise almost everything in RDA would be a 10 and wouldn't make any sort of sense.
*Afro/Disco, Emi, Yuni, Rage, and Ruby replace almost all of their Wii counterparts. To this I also say it's about time, as anybody who played DDR prior to Wii knew who the Wii cast was really supposed to be. Rena, Naoki, jun, and U1 are the ONLY returning HP veterans. Everyone else is gone.
*Videos have returned, however they are smaller and put to the side of the arrow lanes. Many, if not all the licenses have their videos. Size be damned, it's better than nothing.
Half of this game is DDRX2 CS. Literally. Practically every important KO made it save for two. I'm So Happy and Theory of Eternity are exclusive to this as they aren't even in the US AC X2. A few of these songs even got long versions EXCLUSIVE to this year's game (ZETA).
*Routines have sorta been given the arcade treatment, meaning not much at all. Anyone expecting awesome looking stuff like you saw with HP2 and 3 WILL be disappointed. It's not like I don't get why this happened, but it's still the only real aesthetic strike I have against the game.
*Balance Board and Choreography mode BOTH got the axe. IMO the content here more than makes up for that, though anyone who really liked these modes will find themselves at a loss here.
*Only one dancer on screen with the rest being silhouettes unless it's a boss song where they're in flight. This is probably so high density charts don't cut the framerate in 4 player mode. I thought it was kinda cool seeing 888 get the tunnel vision thing though.
*The Wii specific presentation is still there, but parts of it have been altered to be more in tune with the arcades and more specifically with DDRX3 AC. Those who preferred the HP characters and/or the more bubbly sounds and visual interfaces are going to HATE this as this is probably the most neutral interface of the Wii titles.
Overall viewpoints so far:
IMO, this smokes the living hell out of DDR2010. There's still a few offending charts, but so far nothing is as bad as A Geisha's Dream was. London Evolved is awesome. Seule, not so much, but it doesn't really matter as there's more than enough to play. There's also some VERY good 14s and 15s that'll transition you into the harder stuff, along with lower end charts that are pretty fun to step. Doubles charts are looking good so far. For all intents and purposes, there's a little something for everyone this year.
Songlist is probably the best one of the 5 releases hands down. The licenses are actually pretty good this year, with some of my personal favorites making it in WITH DECENT TO GOOD CHARTS! The new KOs are for the most part solid though some stupidity does exist there. However, the X2 content is where it's at and is where this game really stands out.
To the hardcore fans, GET IT. This is the closest to DDRX2 CS you're going to realistically get. IMO, it's one of the best CS releases ever. For you, it's an 9.5/10
To the HP DDR fans in between casual and experienced, I'd recommend you get it too, but it will probably be very different in comparison to the previous Wii titles. It may seem a bit more unforgiving at first, but stick with it, get better, and I guarantee you that you'll come to appreciate it. For you, I'd put it at 8.8/10
If you're the type that didn't like the traditional play, but loved Balance Board and/or Choreography mode I'm going to have to tell you to skip it this year and go for Just Dance 3, and/or DDRI and HP3 if you don't have those already. For you guys, this will be a 2/10.
Arcade relevance: DDRX3 uses a lot of this game's interface and music. About half the new KOs are on here. Both boss songs are there, though London Evolved got a new set of Challenge charts.
