This is a video I never wanted to make. I’ve been building my 2016 Jeep JK since purchasing it in 2019. The Jeep is finally where I want it to be. Although it’s never going to be “done” completely. There is always something more you want to do. In fact I just had it re-geared recently. It’s been reliable for the most part over the last 200,000 miles. It’s only left me stranded once before now.
I was chasing an overheating issue all summer and the mechanics had trouble tracking it down. It ended up being a bad head gasket. A reputable Jeep Shop in the San Diego area recommended an engine replacement due to the high number of miles. I chose to replace it with the original Mopar Pentastar. I spent a total of $14,000 dollars to have other things replaced also such as the radiator, water pump, alternator, etc. If I was going to have a new engine I wanted everything else to be new as much as possible.
A remanufactured engine was installed but failed after 414 miles. Apparently it blew a rod causing catastrophic damage to the entire engine from flying metal. I had it towed back to the repair shop where it has been sitting for two weeks. They have another engine ready to go in. It’s on hold at a dealership around the corner but they’re waiting for Mopar to authorize the claim. I’m told there’s a process that needs to be followed but no one knows how long that will take.
I think this is unacceptable. I was told I needed a new engine. I paid for the new engine. The shop installed the engine. The engine failed after only one day. Someone owes me an engine. It’s not as if it broke after a year or 50,000 miles. It was literally the day after I picked it up and drove home. There shouldn’t be any room for discussion. REPLACE THE POOR QUALITY ENGINE I WAS SOLD! It feels as if Mopar is trying to find a way out of honoring their warranty. Why else would it take so long to approve. Mopar is asking the shop that did the installation for a record of the oil changes on a motor with 414 miles!
