Day 18 of my 60-day challenge to learn the Godot game engine, focused on 2D game development.
Tonight’s update was all about UI, clarity, and setting the stage for upgrades. I added tower stat popups, reworked how fire rate is represented, and started laying the groundwork for a full upgrade and sell system — bugs and all.
In this video, I cover:
• Tower stat tooltips (damage + fire rate)
• First pass at an upgrade popup UI
• Reworking fire rate to be more understandable
• Differentiating towers by damage vs speed
• Handling click detection on towers (current bug + next steps)
• Early thinking around upgrade scaling (10–15% growth)
• Preparing for waves, bosses, and level completion
• Reflecting on how far this game has gone compared to past prototypes
This is very much a first pass — the UI needs cleanup, interactions need refinement, and balancing will come later — but the foundation for upgrades and progression is finally in place.
Next up: fixing tower selection, adding upgrades, and pushing closer to waves and bosses.
