Due to the strong winds in Zurich, runway 28 was designated for landings. This happens every so often. This is the shortest runway, 2,500m long vs 3,300m on runway 14, the typical runway for landings. Still enough room for the A380 but nonetheless requires heavy braking.
A few fire rescue trucks were called in to inspect the brakes given they were smoking as the plane taxied to the gate. The plane stayed put for about 20 minutes before being tugged to the gate.
This was my first time seeing this but maybe it happens more often when they use runway 28.
