Anesthesia Machine: Non-rebreather hook-up & leak test

The non-rebreathing system is used on patients less than 10 lbs/ 4.5 kgs. There is a grey area between 10 - 20 lbs/ 4.5 - 9 kg where either the non-rebreather or rebreather systems can be used on a patient. Use Body Condition Scores (BCS) to determine which system should be used.
Before attaching the non-rebreather to the anesthetic machine, you must assemble the parts correctly. I begin with my tubes already assembled.
There are 2 ways to attach a non-rebreather system to an anesthetic machine- I will focus on only 1 way. Find the outlet to the vaporizer & remove the connector. Identify the vaporizer connector on the non-rebreather & connect it to the vaporizer. Identify the end to the scavenger tube on the non-rebreather & connect it to the scavenger. In this video, I have an F/air canister as my passive scavenger system.
To Leak Test a non-rebreather: (1) Close the pop-off valve on the non-rebreather (no need to touch the one on the anesthetic machine) (2) Occlude the patient end/ ET tube connector port, (3)Turn on oxygen at flowmeter & fill breathing bag with oxygen until bag is greater than halfway full. (4)Turn off oxygen & squeeze bag to make sure it retains pressure. (You will not be able to use anesthetic machine's manometer as it is bypassed) (5) If pressure is maintained= no leak (b) if pressure decreases- leak (6) open pop-off/ pressure release valve (7) (a) remove hand from patient end/ ET tube port.
