Beat my PB again – 9lb winter cod from Newbiggin beach mark!
I genuinely hated this spot. Sea was massive, I couldn't cast far enough, and I convinced myself I was fishing in 2 feet of water. Then this absolute unit changed everything.
🎣 TACKLE & SETUP:
Bullseye Beachcaster + T700 rod
7oz grip lead
Modified running trace (80lb hooklink, 30lb mono to weight)
6/0 Mustad + 4/0 circle hook
Bait: Frozen peeler crab, bluey, cockle wings
📍 LOCATION:
Newbiggin beach mark – sandy spot, heavy weed in the water, challenging conditions for beach fishing.
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 – Conditions & Tackle Setup
2:15 – First Cast Struggles
5:30 – Doubting the Spot
8:45 – FISH ON!
10:20 – The Reveal (9lb Cod)
This is what winter cod fishing's about – battling the elements, questioning every decision, then landing the fish of the session when you least expect it.
If you're fishing the North East this season, don't write off the beach marks when the sea's up. Sometimes the fish surprise you.
